Me? A Son/Daughter of God

Eph. 1:5...he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will

One of the most profound transactions that takes place when we are saved is that  we are brought into the household of God through spiritual adoption.

We live in the Kingdom of God as sons who serve, not servants.

Gal. 4:5 ...that we might receive the full rights of sons.

Rom. 8:15...but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Rom. 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Rom. 8:17...Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,

In the verses above we discover that we have received the full rights as sons. We can now connect with God as Abba (which translated, Dad), and we receive an inheritance that can be spent today on earth! This truly is amazing.

As a son/daughter we then have confidence to approach God as Father, with the understanding we are fully accepted! And as a perfect Father, God is concerned about every thought and detail in our lives. He invites us to come and share our lives with Him.

We are brought into the Kingdom and adopted into a royal family where our Dad is King, King of all things, an everlasting King. We are now sons/daughters of God with all it’s rights and responsibilities. We need so much more revelation on this!

Here are six things I gathered about sonship:

It’s Legal. The Holy Spirit as “the Spirit of adoption” also places a saved  person in a legal standing in God’s family. The adopted son has all the rights and privileges of God’s only begotten Son, Jesus.

We are Loved. God the Father loves the adopted child just as much as He loves His only begotten Son. The first ministry to us that the Spirit performs after we have believed is to convince us that God has become to us “Abba”.

It’s Secure. As a result of God’s adopting us we are secure in our relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit imparts to us the divine nature and places us in the family of God in accordance to His unchanging laws.

It’s comes with Privileges. This is our new standing before the LORD God. He accepts us into His family, who by nature do not belong to it, and places those who are not His sons originally into a right relationship with Him with all the privileges of that new family relationship.

We get a new heart of a True Son. The Holy Spirit creates a new nature. We have not only the new status as sons, but also the heart of true sons. Our adoption is the act of God’s pure goodness and grace of His will.

New Intimacy. Abba is an Aramaic affectionate diminutive for ‘father’ used in the intimacy of the family circle; We have access to the same intimacy with God the Father that God the Son, Jesus Christ had.

Me, an Ambassador?

Eph. 6:20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
2Cor. 5:20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

In a previous blog I wrote about our identity in the Kingdom of God as Ambassadors. It reminds me of the old Assemblies of God song “we are Christ’s Ambassadors”. Anyway, people do not often think that an Ambassador is a huge part as their identity in Christ. It is.

There are significant parallels with what an Ambassador does on earth and our identity as one in the Kingdom of God.

A simple job description of an Ambassador is one who is a diplomatic official of the highest rank representing one government to another. He lives in a foreign country but the land he is on is owned by his government.

Biblically, an Ambassadors number one priority is to bring others back into friendship and communion with God. We are to see others be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.

Here are some interesting things about what Ambassadors do. All of these have Kingdom parallels.

  1. An Ambassador does not represent a constituency of people nor a political party. He represents and entire nation. When you meet an Ambassador, you meet a nation.
  2. An Ambassador is committed to his governments interest, not his own. He is appointed to represent a President or King.
  3. An Ambassador never gives his personal opinion. On things pertaining to his government he says, “My governments position is....”
  4. An Ambassador personifies the principles, values and freedoms that his government represents. He is an example.
  5. All the Ambassadors needs are provided for by the government he is representing. He is completely furnished for His role. He never has to worry.

The church is getting revelation on who she is. Begin to understand and live out your role as Heavens Ambassador! It’s part of who your are.

More to come.
